When the unexpected happens, Preferred Service can fix it quickly and professionally.  MDU’s Preferred Service plan offers you a full year of repair protection on your home’s primary heating appliance and water heater. In addition, an annual maintenance check on your home’s heating equipment is included.

  • Utility customer of MDU - $13.95 per month*
  • Additional equipment - $6.95 per month for each product (add a furnace, water heater, gas garage heater or gas space heater)

How much can Preferred Service save me?

It's hard to know how much money you can save - since each situation is unique, but the cost of the unexpected can catch you off guard. Here's an example of a customer who needed a new combustion motor for their furnace and received service during regular business hours.

What if I never need to call for repair service?

That would be GREAT news! Preferred Service is like an insurance policy. We're here when you need us. Preferred Service covers an annual inspection on your heating equipment, which is an $80 value. A thorough inspection is like an annual physical by your doctor; you may avoid potential problems identified early by a knowledgeable professional.

Does it matter when I have my annual inspection?

GREAT QUESTION! Some customers believe their annual inspection needs to be done in the fall, but as long as your furnace and appliances are being inspected annually - you're good to go! Besides, we've got you covered all year, not just in the fall.  Preferred Service customers are responsible for scheduling their annual maintenance inspection by calling 1-800-MDU-FAST (1-800-638-3278).

What are the limitations of Preferred Service?

Preferred Service does not cover parts and labor that are required as a result of abuse, vandalism, fire, freezing, acts of God, power or water supply outages, flooded basements or other abnormal conditions. See the conditions and limitations for full disclosure.
