How do I get on LIHEAP?

MDU Safe-n-Secure is an alarm system that consists of two wireless sensors installed in your home. Each sensor communicates with a control panel that is connected to your home's phone line. The control panel keeps track of each sensor. If a sensor is triggered - the control panel automatically calls MDU's Monitoring Center and reports the problem within seconds!

The system includes a variety of packages including home security sensors, medical safety for senior citizens and home safety (fire, water and smoke). For more details see MDU Safe-n-Secure.

What does Preferred Service cover?

Preferred Service is our appliance protection and maintenance plan. It covers: gas and electric ranges, dryers, and water heaters; gas home heating. The basic plan is $13.95 a month! Please call us to get more information or to sign up for Preferred Service.

Does MDU sell appliances?

Yes! We now ofer a complete line of refrigerators, ranges, microwave ovens, dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers, along with carbon monoxide detectors, water heaters and surge protection equipment. For complete details and ordering information, see the Home Convenience Center.

How much does a furnace check-up cost?

Our tune-up price during our fall special is $59.95. At other times of the year the price is based on time and materials.

Is there a charge to light a pilot light?

Yes, there is a charge to light a pilot light unless you are turning on the gas when establishing service. In Montana, two pilot relights will be performed at no charge per calendar year.

Can you move the gas meter if I remodel my home? Cost?

Yes, gas meters can be moved. The moving cost depends on how much service line must be moved, too. Please call us for a cost estimate for moving your meter.

Can I purchase a gift certificate for an MDU bill?

While we do not have a standard gift certificate, our offices can arrange a gift certificate upon request.

How can I buy MDU stock directly from the company?

Residents of any of the 50 states can purchase common stock in MDU Resources Group, Inc. directly from the company and avoid brokerage fees. A minimum enrollment purchase of $50 is required. Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federal fuel assistance program that is administered by each state.
