Montana-Dakota Utilities announces natural gas pipeline extension to Bobcat facility in Gwinner

BISMARCK, N.D. – Sept. 21, 2017 – Montana-Dakota Utilities kicked off a natural gas pipeline project today in Gwinner, N.D., that will bring long-awaited natural gas service to Doosan Bobcat North America’s 700,000 square foot Bobcat equipment manufacturing facility. The pipeline also provides the ability for Montana-Dakota to serve other customers in Ransom and Sargent Counties.

“This project has been talked about, analyzed, reviewed and considered for many, many years,” said Montana-Dakota Utilities President and CEO Nicole Kivisto. “We finally were able to get all the pieces aligned to make this project a reality. It is a privilege to serve the Bobcat facility and we look forward to the opportunity to serve other customers along the route.”

The new 12-inch pipeline will run approximately 21 miles from a tap into the Alliance Pipeline northeast of Milnor and run southwest to Gwinner.

The project cost is estimated at $13.8 million and Doosan Bobcat signed a 15-year agreement to take natural gas service from the pipeline. Construction is expected to begin in the spring 2018 and the pipeline should be in service by late summer 2018.

“Reliable, cost-effective energy powering our facilities is critical to our success building the world leading Bobcat brand of compact equipment,” said Doosan Bobcat North America President and CEO Rich Goldsbury. “This partnership is the culmination of many years working alongside Montana-Dakota Utilities to bring natural gas not only to Doosan Bobcat, but to our surrounding communities long term as well.”

The pipeline has the capacity to expand natural gas service to other key industries in the region, including agriculture, as well as to residential customers. Montana-Dakota is already reaching out to potential customers about tapping into the new pipeline.
