Commercial Incentive Programs

Montana-Dakota Utilities offers electric and natural gas incentive programs in Montana and natural gas incentives in South Dakota for commercial customers. These programs are designed to promote the conservation of electricity and natural gas. Click on your state below and check out details of the programs available. (There are no incentive programs for North Dakota and Wyoming commercial customers at this time).

Montana Commercial Natural Gas Programs

Montana-Dakota offers conservation incentives to its Montana commercial natural gas customers for investing in high-efficiency natural gas equipment.  Not only will this put money back in your pocket, but you will keep more of it because you will use less energy.  The incentive programs are funded on a plan year basis (March 1 – February 28) and funding is limited.  The following provides details regarding each program available:

 

Montana Commercial Natural Gas Heating Program:

High Efficiency Natural Gas Furnace: Montana-Dakota commercial natural gas customers who purchase and install a natural gas furnace with an AFUE of 95% or greater qualify for the following incentive:

  • 95% or greater AFUE Natural Gas Furnace = $300

The natural gas heating program is available to natural gas customers for existing natural gas furnace replacement. Fuel conversion and new construction customers do not qualify for this program.

To apply for a Commercial Natural Gas Heating Incentive, fill out the Commercial Natural Gas Heating Incentive Application Form (pdf) and send it to Montana-Dakota.

Remember to include a copy of the dealer sales invoice. A complete listing of the qualifications, application requirements and instructions are on page two of the form. Funding for this program is limited and applications are processed in the order in which they are received. If funding is depleted prior to the end of the plan year (March 1 – February 28) incentives will not be paid.

 

Montana Commercial Natural Gas Custom Project Program:

Existing Montana commercial customers who use natural gas from Montana-Dakota as their primary source of heating qualify for this program. Proposed commercial energy saving projects must be submitted to Montana-Dakota for pre-approval. Montana-Dakota will calculate the rebate based on the amount of energy savings and the project economics. Measurement and verification of the energy savings may be required and rebate estimates may be reduced based on the actual amount of verified energy savings.

To apply for the Commercial Natural Gas Custom Project Incentive, fill out the Commercial Natural Gas Custom Project Application Form (pdf) and send it to Montana-Dakota.

Incentive Payments:

Montana-Dakota issues incentive payments in the form of a check, not a utility bill credit. Montana-Dakota is not responsible if the dealer does not provide accurate information about the incentive or equipment eligibility.  Allow 4-6 weeks for incentive payment processing.

Incentive qualification and amounts are subject to change and funding for the programs is limited.  Completed applications will be processed in the order in which they are received.  Incentives will not be paid if funds are depleted prior to the end of the plan year (March 1 – February 28).

Montana-Dakota reserves the right to modify or cancel these programs at any time.


Montana Commercial Electric Programs

Montana Commercial Lighting Program:

The Commercial Lighting Incentive program has been established to encourage commercial customers to replace less efficient lighting products with new high-efficient technologies. The Commercial Lighting Program is divided into a prescriptive project and a custom project option. In general, the prescriptive incentive should apply to most projects. Annual funding for this program is limited; therefore, Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. (Montana-Dakota) must pre-approve all projects with incentives over $1,000.

Customer Qualifications: This program applies to all existing commercial facilities with an active Montana-Dakota electric account in the state of Montana. Montana large customers, as defined by MCA 69-8-103(15), will not be eligible for this program as Universal System Benefits (USB) funding is applied for all incentives.  For inquires please call 800-638-3278 or email: [email protected].

How to Apply: If pre-approval is required (all projects over $1,000) please submit the Montana Commercial Lighting Rebate Application Form (pdf) and check the pre-approval box. Please submit forms prior to commencing work to ensure that funding for your project is secured. Montana-Dakota will respond in writing once it is approved.

Fill out and sign the Commercial Lighting Rebate Application and send the forms and a copy of the contractor invoices and supporting material to Montana-Dakota.

Montana Electric Commercial Partnership Program

Montana-Dakota commercial electric customers with proposed projects that will result in significant electric energy savings qualify for this program.  The proposed project must be submitted to Montana-Dakota for pre-approval.  Montana-Dakota will calculate the rebate based on the amount of energy savings and the project economics.  Measurement and verification of the estimated energy savings may be required, and rebate payments may be reduced based on the actual amount of verified energy savings.

To apply, fill out the Electric Commercial Partnership Program (pdf) form and send it to Montana-Dakota (a complete listing of terms and conditions of the program are listed on page two of the form).

South Dakota Commercial Natural Gas Heating Program

COMMERCIAL NATURAL GAS HEATING PROGRAM

High Efficiency Natural Gas Furnace: Montana-Dakota commercial natural gas customers who purchase and install a natural gas furnace with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 95% or greater qualify for the following incentive (this program is available on natural gas furnaces rated under 125,000 Btuh):

Natural Gas Heating   Rebate
 95% or greater AFUE Furnace – New Construction Installation $150
 95% or greater AFUE Furnace – Furnace Replacement & Fuel Conversion $300
