Residential Incentive Programs

Montana-Dakota Utilities offers electric and natural gas incentive programs in the state of Montana and South Dakota for residential customers. These programs are designed to promote the conservation of electricity and natural gas. Click on your state below and check out details of the programs available. (There are no incentive programs for North Dakota and Wyoming residential customers at this time).

Montana Residential Natural Gas Conservation Incentive Programs

Montana-Dakota offers conservation incentives to its Montana residential natural gas customers for investing in high-efficiency natural gas equipment.  Not only will this put money back in your pocket, but you will keep more of it because you will use less energy.  The incentive programs are funded on a plan year basis (March 1 – February 28) and funding is limited.  The following provides details regarding each program available:

RESIDENTIAL NATURAL GAS HEATING PROGRAM

High Efficiency Natural Gas Furnace:  Montana-Dakota residential natural gas customers who purchase and install a natural gas furnace with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 95% or greater qualify for the following incentive:

Natural Gas Heating Rebate

Programmable Setback Thermostat: Montana-Dakota residential natural gas customers, who purchase and install a programmable setback thermostat, meeting the criteria listed below, qualify for the following incentive:

Tier 2: Wi-fi Connected Thermostat$60

Tier 1 Thermostat-must have at least 4 programmable time periods per day (i.e. wake, leave, return and sleep).  The programmable thermostat must also allow a separate program schedule for the work week vs. the weekend (i.e. 5-1-1 or 5-2 day programmable).  To qualify, the Tier 1 thermostat must be purchased and installed by a heating contractor with a qualifying new high efficiency furnace.

Tier 2 Thermostat-must be a communicating Wi-Fi connected thermostat with customer access to set points and schedule from anywhere with a smart device.  The Tier 2 thermostat does not require contractor installation, nor the purchase of a qualifying new high efficiency natural gas furnace.

The natural gas heating program is available to residential natural gas customers for existing home natural gas furnace replacement. Fuel conversion and new construction customers do not qualify for the program.

To apply for the Natural Gas Heating and/or the Programmable Setback Thermostat incentives, fill out the Natural Gas Heating Incentive Application Form (pdf) and send it to Montana-Dakota.

Remember to include a copy of the dealer sales invoice.  A complete listing of the qualifications, application requirements and instructions are on page two of the form.  Funding for this program is limited on a plan year basis and applications are processed in the order in which they are received. If funding is depleted prior to the end of the plan year (March 1 – February 28) incentives will not be paid.

RESIDENTIAL NATURAL GAS ENERGY ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (Currently Closed)

Montana-Dakota residential natural gas customers may have an energy assessment performed on their home for a cost of $50.00.  If you are noticing moisture problems, drafts or other problems with your home an energy assessment may help you determine how to solve those problems.  If you are approved for an energy assessment, Montana-Dakota will notify you and a third-party contractor will contact you to schedule the assessment.  Once the assessment is completed, Montana-Dakota will bill you $50.00 for the assessment. A typical home energy assessment can cost you from $300-$500.  To apply for the Residential Energy Assessment Program, simply fill out the Residential Energy Assessment Application Form (pdf) and send it to Montana-Dakota.

Montana-Dakota offers a limited number of Residential Energy Assessments per plan year (March 1 – February 28).  Energy Assessments will be granted in the order in which they are received.

Montana – Residential Electric Conservation Incentive Program

 MONTANA RESIDENTIAL ELECTRIC LED LIGHTING PROGRAM

Montana-Dakota residential electric customers who purchase and install high-efficient LED light bulbs in their home will qualify for a rebate.  The rebate is calculated at 50% of the package price of the bulb with a maximum rebate per bulb of:

The LED lighting program is limited to 40 bulbs per residential electric account.

To apply for the Residential Electric LED Lighting Rebate, fill out the Residential Electric LED Lighting Rebate Application form (PDF), include a copy of the sales receipt(s) indicating the date of purchase, manufacturer brand and model number of the bulbs must accompany the rebate application.  A complete listing of program qualifications, application requirements and instructions are on page two of the form.

Incentive Payments:

Montana-Dakota issues incentive payments in the form of a check, not a utility bill credit. Montana-Dakota is not responsible if the dealer does not provide accurate information about the incentive or equipment eligibility. Allow 4-6 weeks for incentive payment processing.

Incentive qualification and amounts are subject to change and funding for the programs is limited. Completed applications will be processed in the order in which they are received. Incentives will not be paid if funds are depleted prior to the end of the plan year.

Montana-Dakota reserves the right to modify or cancel these programs at any time.

There are no incentive programs for North Dakota residential customers at this time.

South Dakota Residential Natural Gas Conservation Incentive Programs

Montana-Dakota offers conservation incentives to its South Dakota residential natural gas customers for investing in high-efficiency natural gas equipment. Not only will this put money back in your pocket, but you will keep more of it because you will use less energy. The incentive programs are funded on an annual calendar year basis, and funding is limited.  The following provides details regarding each program:

RESIDENTIAL NATURAL GAS HEATING PROGRAM

High Efficiency Natural Gas Furnace: Montana-Dakota residential natural gas customers who purchase and install a natural gas furnace with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 95% or greater qualify for the following incentive:

Homebuilders are eligible to receive a maximum of 25 furnace and thermostat incentives on an annual basis.

To apply for the Natural Gas Heating and/or the Programmable Setback Thermostat incentives, fill out the Natural Gas Heating Incentive Application Form (pdf) and send it to Montana-Dakota.
