Starting on February 5, 2024, payments can be made at any time by phone or online. Use your Credit card, debit card, or electronic check through Paymentus® Bill Payment Service. Paymentus® is an independent provider and charges a $1.89 fee per transaction. ATM or Debit cards with the “NYCE®”, “PULSE®”, or “STAR®” logo can be used for payment. Visa® , MasterCard® , American Express® , or Discover® credit cards can be used as well. Payments made through Paymentus® will be processed the following business day.

  • Pay by phone: A credit/debit card payment can be initiated by calling 833-425-1698 and following the prompts. Be sure to have your account number ready.
  • Online: Payments can be made online through the Paymentus® website. This site will be live on February 5th, 2024. Be sure to have your account number ready.
  • Payment options: Visa® , MasterCard® , American Express® , Discover®, echeck®, PayPal®, PayPal Credit®, Venmo®, Amazon Pay®, Apple Pay®, Google Pay®

What is changing?

In addition to expanded payment methods, the convenience fee for debit and credit card payments is now $1.89. This fee will be applied to digital wallet options as well.

What payment methods and payment options are available?

You can pay using ACH, mail-in payments, credit cards, debit cards and digital wallets (PayPal, PayPal Credit, Venmo, Google Pay, Apple Pay and Amazon Pay). Additionally, customers can schedule automatic payments (AutoPay), mail in their payment or pay in-store at nearby Western Union locations.

If I am a pre-existing user of the former online payment system, will I need to re-register?

Yes. You will need to register your account on the new Paymentus website. Your account information will not transfer from SpeedPay to Paymentus.

Only customers who have AutoPay set up on their account with SpeedPay will have their account information transferred to Paymentus.

Can I use these options to pay a deposit?

Yes, only if you have an existing account with a balance.

Can I use these options to pay a reconnect fee?

Yes, only if you have an existing account with a balance.

Can I set up AutoPay from the one-time pay portal?

Customers must register for AutoPay within the new Customer Payment Portal.

Are there payment options available that do not incur a fee?

Yes. ACH/eCheck payments are free to use at customer.montana-dakota.com.

What can I expect with recurring payments?

Recurring payments are a convenient way to ensure your bill is automatically paid on time each month. Customers can register for free through the customer portal and enroll to  have the monthly payment automatically debited via their preferred payment method on the due date on the bill. A confirmation is then sent to acknowledge the payment has been made.

Recurring payments can be made for free by using ACH through the Montana-Dakota Utilities customer web app, or by credit card, debit card and digital wallet through the Paymentus portal for a fee of $1.89 per transaction.

When should I use the Paymentus payment portal URL?

The Paymentus customer portal can be used for debit card payments, credit card payments (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express) and digital wallets (PayPal, PayPal Credit, Venmo, Google Pay, Apple Pay and Amazon Pay).

How can I make a free ACH payment?

ACH payments can be made by logging into our online account services at customer.montana-dakota.com. ACH payments are free and available 24/7.
